Chairman
Ali S. Habib is the Founding and current Chairman of Indus Motor Company Limited (a joint venture with Toyota Motor Corporation & Toyota Tsusho Corporation of Japan) and is also on the Board of Directors of ThalNova Power Thar (Private) Ltd.; a 300-MW mine-mouth lignite power plant (project under development). He heads and actively oversees the operations of the House of Habib (HoH) companies (www.www.hoh.net). HoH is a conglomerate of companies employing over 10,000 people. Activities range from automobiles to auto parts, ceramic tiles to packing materials and chemicals. The Group has four publicly listed companies.
He is currently on the Board of Directors of Habib Metropolitan Bank, Shabbir Tiles & Ceramics Ltd., Thal Ltd. and Habib-Metro Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. (a joint venture with Metro AG, world’s #4 retailer).
He is the Founding Chairman of the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers’ Association and the Founding Chairman Young Presidents Organization Pakistan Chapter and is also serving as a Director on the Board of Pakistan Business Council (& was also it’s past chairman).
Ali Habib is a graduate of the University of Minnesota (Mechanical Engineering). He has completed the PMD 51 (1986) from Harvard University and has completed Executive Management Programs at Harvard (in 2007 & 2018), at Stanford (in 2008) and at Wharton.
He also devotes his time and attention to social welfare, education and benevolent activities and is a Member on the Board of Governors of Habib University, as well as a Director on the Board of Habib University Foundation and a Trustee of the Habib Education Trust. He has also served for many years on the Board of Governors of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust.
Vice Chairman Autos
Parvez Ghias is the Chief Executive Officer and Director at the Habib University Foundation (HUF) since January 2017 and Vice Chairman – Automotive at the House of Habib. Prior to joining HUF, Parvez Ghias was CEO of Indus Motor Co., Limited from August 2005 to December 2016.
Parvez Ghias is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Statistics. He serves as non-executive director at Indus Motor and Dawood Hercules Corporation and as independent director on the board of Shell Pakistan Limited.
Vice Chairman Non-Autos
Mr. Salman Burney joined the Board in February 2016 as non-Executive Director. He also served as the VP/Area GM for GSK Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. He began his career with ICI Pakistan in Sales & Marketing within various roles in Pakistan and African Eastern Region at ICI plc, London as General Manager of ICI’s Agrochemicals and Seeds Business.
He joined the Company in 1992, was appointed MD, SmithKline Beecham in 1997 with additional responsibility for Iran and the Caspian Region. He was holding the position of MD for GSK in Pakistan and he was responsible for GSK’s Pharmaceutical business in Pakistan Iran & Afghanistan.
He has a degree in Economics from Trinity College, University of Cambridge, UK. Mr. Salman Burney has been the President of Pakistan’s Foreign Investors Chamber and as Chairperson of the MNC Pharma Association has led the industry interface with the government on various issues.
Vice Chairman Corporate Finance, BD & CEO Thal Ltd.
Over 25 years of experience, mainly with multinationals and Private Equity, covering areas of business turnarounds, transformation of organizations, entrepreneurial experience in general management, financial management and business acquisitions. CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of K-Electric, the largest integrated power utility in Pakistan. K-Electric serves Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan, with a population of approximately 22 million people. Have been a member of K-Electric Board from 2009 to 2019. Led the operational turnaround of this ailing utility and turning into profitability after 17 years of losses.
Before joining Abraaj, was CFO at The Coca-Cola Company managed bottler in the UAE and Oman, a business that saw a successful turnaround from losses to sustained profitability within two years.
Prior to moving to Coca-Cola UAE, was the CFO of The Coca-Cola managed bottler in Pakistan – acquired the bottling plants across Pakistan and was part of the Executive Committee in organizational and people transformation and redesign.
Started my post-qualification career in 1995 with Packages Limited in Pakistan as Manager Project Financing, responsible for investment reviews and project financing.
Qualified as a Chartered Accountant from The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1994.
Group Director Legal
Prior to joining House of Habib, Andalib provided his legal expertise to companies like Engro and Shell. He was associated with Engro Corporation for over 25 years as Head of Legal and Company Secretary. While at Engro, Andalib closed major critical projects like the joint venture with Vopak Netherlands, Polymer-Asahi partnership, and also spearheaded (from a legal standpoint) other breakthrough projects like LNG terminal for Pakistan, Thar mining and power projects and Engro Foods transaction with Royal Friesland Campina.
Andalib graduated from the London School of Economics with LLB and he followed this up by successfully completing the Bar at Lincolns Inn.
His hobbies include traveling and reading and he describes himself as a connoisseur of good food.
Group Director Human Resources
Naila Kassim is the Group Director HR for House of Habib. In her capacity as the Group Director HR she is responsible for formulating a strong talent and HR management strategy that encompasses recruitment, retention, organizational development & rewards in sync with the business needs along with ensuring succession planning for a healthy talent pool within the organization. She is also responsible for the Group Wide Management Trainee program across the industrial and banking sector across House of Habib.
Prior to her association with House of Habib she was the Group Head of HR & Communications of Engro Corp. Responsible for all strategic HR matters and the internal and external communications of the Engro brand and its subsidiaries consolidating the brand architecture for the Company as a whole. She has also initiated various human capital development programs that include championing diversity and driving employee engagement to deploy an enabling environment at Engro.
Prior to her association with Engro in 2010, Naila worked extensively with the leading giant chip manufacturer – Intel Corporation – where she was responsible for developing strategic programs to promote technology usage and penetration of IT in Pakistan, Thailand & Bangladesh. She was also instrumental in working with the world-wide teams in supporting the development of a new platform for the emerging markets. During her time at Intel Corporation she was heading the flagship CSR program to bring about technology aided learning in schools across Pakistan and Thailand. Naila worked with the Government of Pakistan to train a 100K teachers on using technology as a teaching tool and promoting project-based learning across both government and private schools in the country. She also launched the first WIMAX Pilot with the Ministry of IT in the country and launched various initiatives to make computers affordable with various financial institutions. In addition, she was also responsible for increasing technology adoption across the South Asian Markets.
Naila holds a Bachelor of Science degree having majored in Marketing from Southeastern University, Washington D.C. In her free time, she enjoys music, travelling and watching shows and movies.
